The Destruction Of Canadian Boreal Forest
by Jason StamatyadesWatercolour, charcoal & gouache on paper.
12 X 16 inches.
2012
Almost 80 per cent of the Earth’s original forests have been degraded or destroyed. The Boreal Forest is invaluable to the planet as it helps stabilize the climate by storing massive amounts of carbon. When the forest is degraded through logging and industrial development, massive amounts of greenhouse gasses are released into the atmosphere and the forest becomes more vulnerable to global warming impacts like fires and insect outbreaks. More than half of Canada’s landmass, the Boreal Forest sustains countless plants and animals, and is the source of life and culture for many indigenous communities.http://www.greenpeace.org/canada/en/campaigns/forests/boreal/
